High-Powered E.F.I. Fuel Pumps from BG

E.F.I. Fuel Pumps for High-Powered Applications

Dahlonega, GA – BG Fuel Systems, a Barry Grant company, has replaced its troublesome Gerotor fuel pumps with a new twin-spur gear design. The new King Sumo QQM fuel pump (Quiet, Quality Mesh), the first of four models, generates 75-psi with electrical draw of fewer than 20-amps. Like its predecessor, the new QQM is equipped with a continuous-duty fuel-cooled motor and suits applications with 750 to 2000 horsepower. It contains a built-in cleanable, pleated stainless steel fuel filter, which features a unique dry-break arrangement. This eliminates the need to drain the fuel tank while inspecting or servicing the filter. Additionally, this precision-machined, billet-aluminum pump contains no shaft seals, eliminating fuel leaks.

The King Sumo QQM pump suits high-performance late-model street/strip cars, light trucks, and towing vehicles, plus street machines and street rods using E.F.I. technology. It is uncommonly quiet in operation, can be mounted in the horizontal or vertical position without sacrificing performance, but is not an emissions-legal product.

N.B. To control the Sumo’s fuel pressure, use a BG Bypassing Regulator (part number 171023). Its internal components are fully corrosion-resistant and encased in an anodized billet-aluminum housing. Designed to control fuel pressure of up to 70 psi, the bypass features two –10 AN inlet ports, a –6 AN outlet, two ports to mount fuel-pressure gauges, as well as a boost-referencing port.

Nascar's Car of Tomorrow

By Allen Madding

With the introduction of the Car of Tomorrow into 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup competition, there have been lots of complaints aired about the impact of changing over. What exactly is different besides the roofline being higher, the “greenhouse” being wider, the freaky new rear wing, and the “splitter” under the front bumper?

The basic design on the chassis is the same as before, but NASCAR has mandated a significant amount of things related to the chassis.

A NASCAR Nextel Cup car has a rear suspension consisting of two truck arms that run from a cross member near the center of the car to the rear axle, two rear springs, and a panhard bar which locates the rear axle from side to side. The new Car of Tomorrow chassis has design and location specifications for the truck arm cross member as well as specifications for the floor pan height and width, and for the firewall location.

The specifications are above and beyond those of years past.

Additionally all sheet metal making up firewalls and floor pans must be 22 gauge. NASCAR now requires teams to submit a completed chassis to their Tech Center in Concord, North Carolina for inspection and certification before the teams can hang bodywork on the cars.

In the past, NASCAR never inspected the chassis until the whole finished race car was presented for inspection at the race track prior to practice on race weekend. Finished cars and body work inspection will still take place at the track as in years past, but NASCAR now gets the chance to check the chassis before it is covered with bodywork.

Teams still have some flexibility in locating pivot points on the front suspension as they have in the past so they can still create a drop-snout style chassis or a straight-up chassis as before, but there are a few new rules addressing the snout of the Car of Tomorrow chassis that did not previously exist.

Bump stops, a tool for limiting suspension travel that were once illegal for use in NASCAR Nextel Cup competition, are now allowed. The main reason NASCAR has allowed bump stops is to give the teams a tool to prevent the chassis from sinking too far into the drag and damaging the splitter the sits below the front bumper. As NASCAR has designed the Car of Tomorrow to be aerodynamically dependant on the splitter for front down force, damaging the splitter by bottoming out on it would effectively end a team’s day.

Fullerton, CA (PRWeb) December 4, 2006 -- With the 75th Anniversary of the Ford Deuce right around the corner, Hot Rod & Restoration teamed up with SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association), who already had a major survey underway, to gain new insight on the ever-changing marketplace. The new data and results of their research and survey's are amazing and will help the market continue to grow to the next level.

"Being known as the voice of the hot rod and restoration industry, it's important for us to stay on the edge of every new trend and always keep our information current," says Debbie Lewis, President of Hot Rod & Restoration. "Our research has given us valuable insight into the changing market, highlighting that this industry isn't just your grandpa's 32' Deuce anymore, there's a whole new demographic and it's providing us with an exciting future outlook."

Below are the highlights of the survey and research:

Demographics
• 60% of the hot rod and restoration industry are not from the "baby boomer" generation
• According to a survey done with subscribers of 21 different Primedia publications and the age demographics seem to spread across the board, showing people of all ages have an interest in the hot rod and restoration industry

Age 16-24 Age 25-39 Age 40-58 Age 59+
Very Interested in Muscle Cars 19.7% 31.8% 40.0% 8.8%

Industry General Information:
• Hot rod and restoration industry no longer excludes cars pre- 1973 or muscle cars. It is currently driven in large part by the boom in American Muscle cars and vehicles from that era. So much so, that many collector car insurance companies are now beginning to insure vehicle as young as 20 years old (1986)

• The Southwest region of the United States represents the majority of all pre-1973 vehicles on the road because of the mild and dry climate with the most being in California

• Noting that GM is classified as any Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GM, GMC, Oldsmobile, or Pontiac vehicle in this study, there are more GM vehicles registered in the United States then any other make

• When hot rod & restoration businesses were surveyed, 66% have grown or greatly increased in the last 5 years, while 30% have held steady and only 4% experienced a decrease

Stewart practicing for show on Satellite Radio

By DAVID POOLE - The Charlotte Observer

NEXTEL Cup driver Tony Stewart, seen here before a practice run at Lowe's Motor Speedway, is practicing for his weekly Sirius Satellite Radio show he'll be doing next year.

Tony Stewart competes.

Certainly, he competes every time he's behind the wheel of a race car, no matter whether it's a Nextel Cup car on a superspeedway, a sprint racer on a dirt track or a go-kart goofing off with his buddies.

But he competes everywhere else, too. He's down to 179 pounds thanks to a trainer who's helping him with an exercise program and watching everything the 2005 Nextel Cup champion consumes

"I have to do everything full out," Stewart said. "That's just the way I am. Everything I agree to do I want to do it the best that I can."

That's one reason Stewart will spend the first part of this week in New York City doing "practice" shows in preparation for Thursday night's preview edition of the weekly Sirius Satellite Radio show he'll be doing next year.

"This is going to be a huge challenge for me," said Stewart, whose show co-hosted by television racing analyst Matt Yocum will air for two hours each week on the NASCAR channel that begins full-time on Sirius channel 128 on Jan. 1.

Stewart and Yocum plan to do their first rehearsal show Monday night and will do another Tuesday night. If all goes well, they'll take Wednesday night off before the preview show airs at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Musician Kid Rock and diet guru Richard Simmons are scheduled to be guests on the first show, along with 2006 Nextel Cup champion Jimmie Johnson. That lineup indicates Stewart's idea for the show, which will be about more than just racing.

"I want the show to be informative, but foremost I want it to be entertaining," he said. "We'll talk about the hot topics of the week in NASCAR, I am sure, but because we're going to talk about things outside of racing I am going to have to do my homework, too."

Your Own NASCAR Museum?

By Larry Cottril

I’m not sure where it all started.
Of course, there were always the plastic scale models from my youth, the books, the VHS tapes of races from the early ESPN days, and the old saved copies of "Winston Cup Scene" newspapers. That was all healthy, but somewheres along the way, it got a little "abnormal".

The unfinished ceiling beams of the basement seemed a logical place to hang (store) 1/64th scale die-cast replicas which were still in the package. Since I had no fine china, the china cabinet my grandmother left me seemed like a good place for the best of my "loose" cars. That bare spot on the wall to the left of the fireplace somehow was begging to get covered with something NASCAR related.

I recall the day that the "This End Up" crate-style couch and love seat got their kick-panels tattooed with WRANGLER 3 and BUD 8 logos by my soldering iron (in exquisite detail I might add).

How it got to where it now is, that’s anybody’s guess, but I know that the advent of eBaY has forever doomed me.

Another Racer Uses Ebay To Find Sponsor

Second-year NHRA top alcohol funny car driver Brandon "The Kid" Lewis turns to eBay in effort to raise money as he prepares to compete in the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona.

Broken Arrow, OKLA (PRWEB) October 16, 2006 -- This won't be the strangest thing an NHRA drag racing team has ever done to lure in sponsorship, but what Brandon "The Kid" Lewis is attempting may be the most "21st century" fund-raising campaign.

The second-year NHRA top alcohol funny car driver has posted sponsorship rights for auction on eBay for his car, trailer and team for the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals. The event will be held in Pomona, Calif., November 9-12.

"There is no question that this idea is a little unique, but it certainly won't be the strangest thing we've done," the 21-year-old Lewis said.

Lewis became a fan favorite at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, Minn., when he headed to the event campgrounds, which have grown in legend as "The Zoo," asking for sponsorship. Dozens of fans chipped in small contributions to help cover Lewis's costs.

"Up at Brainerd, we thought out-of-the-box about how we could raise money and we had some success," Lewis said. "We offered fans the chance to get involved with the first ever fan-sponsored car, and they loved it.

"Posting a sponsorship opportunity on eBay is the same idea, in a way. We want to give everyone the chance to help the team perform at the highest level."

The auction - scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., October 16 - has until October 26 to draw a bid high enough to cover Lewis Racing Team's expense to compete at the final event of the NHRA season.

The winning bidder will receive: branding on the funny car, trailer and crew; mention as title sponsor over public address and in all media releases and interview; direct marketing opportunities; an appearance by Brandon "The Kid" Lewis and inclusion on www.brandonthekid.com and other electronic media.
